SumCo was contracted by the City of Norwalk to remove the Flock Process Dam located along the Norwalk River. Work included the construction of concrete retaining walls, river bank restoration, restoration of the river bed with rock riffle at the dam location, tree planting and wetland seeding, and the construction of a bituminous concrete parking lot.
The 15’ high dam, constructed in 1850, supplied power to the Flock Process Mill. The City of Norwalk, the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined that the dam was to be removed to improve public safety and increase natural habitats in the river.
