Project Synopsis

SumCo Eco created this living shoreline and reef at the Edith G. Read Natural Park and Wildlife Sanctuary – part of Playland Park. The property is bounded by the Long Island Sound in the City of Rye New York, and will provide habitat complexity and reduce wave energy protecting the shoreline from erosion.

Work included excavation of the site and installation of boulder sills and reef balls in order to create a comprehensive salt marsh. A dune/berm system was also created, the area was seeded, and various native herbaceous plants were planted to further protect the shoreline from erosion.
