The Haskell Pond Dam holds back a 60-acre impoundment which serves as a drinking water supply for the city of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The dam was originally built in 1902 and was classified as a high-hazard structure in poor condition. This challenging dam improvement project included construction of a steep-sloped spillway channel.

SumCo Eco-Contracting was contracted to address persistent seepage, inadequate spillway capacity, unstable embankment slopes, unwanted vegetation, and seismic risks.

Work completed to rehabilitate the structure included constructing a new spillway, footings, stilling basin, and channel walls, while also working to regrade the channel bottom, stabilize the banks, and enhance the wetland habitat.
