Between August 1943 and March 1947 the Great Pond Dune on Martha's Vineyard was used as a practice dive bombing and strafing site, and was now a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) containing unexploded ordinance (UXO). SumCo Eco-Contracting removed and rebuilt the dune section by section while UXOs were uncovered and removed.
